Former NFL quarterback and current FOX Sports analyst Mark Sanchez is recovering in stable condition after reportedly being stabbed during an altercation early Saturday in Indianapolis. Authorities have since placed him under arrest in connection with the same incident.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), officers responded to a report of a stabbing around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, less than a mile from Lucas Oil Stadium. The altercation reportedly involved two adult men, leaving one with lacerations and the other — later identified as Sanchez — with injuries consistent with stab wounds.

Police said both individuals were treated at the scene before being transported to a local hospital, where Sanchez remains under medical care. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and determined the confrontation appeared to be an isolated incident rather than a random act of violence.

Following discussions with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, IMPD announced that Sanchez was arrested at the hospital on three misdemeanor charges: battery resulting in injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. The Prosecutor’s Office will make the final decision on whether to file formal charges.

“IMPD Aggravated Assault detectives are continuing the investigation,” the department said in a statement. “Both men received medical treatment. The man with the apparent stab wounds remains hospitalized in stable condition.”

FOX Sports confirmed Sanchez’s condition in a statement released Saturday afternoon, expressing gratitude to medical personnel. “Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition,” the network said. “We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”

Sanchez, 38, had been in Indianapolis to serve as an analyst for FOX Sports’ broadcast of Sunday’s Indianapolis Colts versus Las Vegas Raiders game. He joined FOX in 2021 after a 10-year career in the NFL, most notably with the New York Jets, where he led the team to consecutive AFC Championship appearances in 2009 and 2010.

Before turning professional, Sanchez gained national prominence as the star quarterback for the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans. He retired from professional football in 2018.

As of Saturday evening, Sanchez remained hospitalized and had not yet been booked into the Marion County Adult Detention Center, according to IMPD.
