White House Warns of Imminent Iranian Missile Threat Against Israel
The White House has issued a stark warning, indicating that the United States believes Iran is preparing for an imminent ballistic missile attack against Israel. In a statement on Tuesday, a senior White House official emphasized, “The United States has indications that Iran is preparing to imminently launch a ballistic missile attack against Israel. We are actively supporting defensive preparations to defend Israel against this attack. A direct military attack from Iran against Israel will carry severe consequences for Iran.”
The U.S. government is prepared to assist Israel in intercepting any missiles directed towards it, drawing parallels to the assistance offered in April, when Iran launched a wave of drones and missiles targeting Israel. During that incident, the vast majority of the attacks were successfully intercepted, according to U.S. officials.
The U.S. anticipates that the upcoming attack from Iran could mirror the scale and scope of the April assault, as confirmed by another official.
Shortly after the White House’s warning, the Israeli military stated it had not yet detected any aerial threats from Iran. Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Daniel Hagari reported, “As of this moment, Israel does not perceive an imminent threat from Iran.” He added that Israeli military planes are currently “scanning the sky” for any potential threats, reiterating the military’s heightened state of alert. Hagari warned that any attack on Israel by Iran would have serious repercussions.
Tensions between Israel and Iran have escalated significantly in recent weeks, particularly as Israel has intensified its military operations against Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group, in southern Lebanon. On Monday, Israel launched a ground operation targeting Hezbollah, further heightening regional tensions.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also weighed in on the situation, stating that the United States is “tracking events in the Middle East very closely” and is “committed to Israel’s defense.” He noted, “We’re watching developments very carefully at this moment,” although he refrained from mentioning Iran specifically or the potential missile attack during a brief appearance alongside his Moroccan counterpart.
The situation remains fluid, and international observers are closely monitoring developments as both the U.S. and Israel prepare for potential confrontations in the region.
