Nepalese Teen Becomes Youngest to Summit World’s 14 Highest Peaks

Published

on

Nima Rinji Sherpa, an 18-year-old Nepalese climber, has etched his name in mountaineering history by becoming the youngest person to successfully summit all of the world’s 14 highest peaks, known as the “8000ers.” His remarkable achievement culminated on Wednesday when he reached the summit of Shishapangma, which stands at 8,027 meters (26,335 feet), at 6:05 a.m. local time. He was accompanied by fellow climber Pasang Nurbu Sherpa during this final ascent.

The Nepal Mountaineering Association confirmed Nima’s record-breaking accomplishment, which has drawn widespread acclaim. Previously, Mingma Gyabu “David” Sherpa held the record, having completed all 14 peaks by the age of 30 in 2019, according to Guinness World Records. However, the verification process for new records can take several weeks.

Nima embarked on his ambitious journey in September 2022 with the ascent of Nepal’s Manaslu, which reaches 8,163 meters. Over the next two years, he summited every “8000er,” including the formidable Everest, the tallest mountain in the world at 8,848.86 meters, and the notoriously perilous K2, which rises to 8,611 meters.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Nima dedicated his world record to his initiative, #SherpaPower. He emphasized that this summit signifies more than just personal achievement; it honors all Sherpas who aspire to transcend traditional expectations. “Mountaineering is more than labor; it is a testament to our strength, resilience, and passion,” he wrote.

The Sherpa community has long been integral to the success of international climbing expeditions, providing crucial expertise as guides and porters in the treacherous Himalayas. Despite their essential role, many Sherpas often receive less recognition and financial reward compared to their Western counterparts.

Through #SherpaPower, Nima aims to inspire younger generations of Sherpas to rise above the stereotype of merely being support climbers, encouraging them to recognize their potential as elite athletes and adventurers. “We are not just guides; we are trailblazers,” he declared. “Let this be a call to every Sherpa to see the dignity in our work and the limitless possibilities in our future.”

The 14 Peaks Expedition company lauded Nima for his extraordinary feat, stating, “At just 18, Nima’s journey is a testament to his incredible strength, perseverance, and the spirit of the Sherpa community.” As Nima Rinji Sherpa steps into the record books, he represents the aspirations and capabilities of the Sherpa people, redefining their legacy in the world of mountaineering.

Ravens Dominate Steelers with Record-Breaking Running Game in 28-14 Victory

By

The Baltimore Ravens made a statement on Saturday night with a dominating 28-14 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, setting a postseason record with 299 rushing yards. Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson were the catalysts, proving their lethal partnership could carry the team deep into the playoffs.

Henry, the bruising running back, was unstoppable as he ran for 186 yards on 26 carries, including two touchdowns. His power and toughness repeatedly punished the Steelers’ defense, highlighted by a 34-yard run punctuated by a stiff arm that sent Steelers star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick reeling. Jackson, meanwhile, added 81 yards on the ground and threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns, reminding fans why he’s a dual-threat MVP candidate.

Jackson, reflecting on Henry’s performance, compared him to Lightning McQueen from Cars, saying, “That’s how Derrick looks when he’s passing all those guys… it looks like a movie.” His dynamic running and playmaking ability made life easier for Henry and kept the Steelers’ defense guessing all night.

The Ravens’ opening drive set the tone for the game as they marched 95 yards, culminating in a touchdown pass from Jackson to Rashod Bateman. Henry’s direct snap for 34 yards was a key play in the series, and Head Coach John Harbaugh said it was specifically designed for the Steelers matchup. The drive’s success propelled the Ravens to a 7-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Baltimore executed a dominant 85-yard, 13-play drive that featured no passes at all, with Jackson and Henry taking turns chewing up yards. Jackson scrambled for gains, while Henry’s powerful runs brought the Ravens to the Steelers’ 10-yard line. Henry capped the drive with a bruising run into the end zone, giving Baltimore a commanding 14-0 lead.

Before halftime, Jackson orchestrated a 1:51 drive, culminating in a third touchdown, sending the Ravens to the break with a 21-0 lead. The Ravens appeared to be in complete control as the Steelers struggled to contain the ground game.

Pittsburgh showed signs of life in the second half. After a 30-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Van Jefferson, the Steelers narrowed the lead to 21-7. However, Henry quickly answered with a 44-yard touchdown run, reestablishing Baltimore’s dominance. Pittsburgh responded again with a long touchdown pass to George Pickens, but the Ravens’ defense tightened, and a key sack by Nnamdi Madubuike halted the Steelers’ momentum.

Despite the Steelers’ late efforts, including a potential game-winning drive, the Ravens’ defense held firm. After a crucial fourth-down stop, Baltimore took control with strong runs from Jackson and Henry, running down the clock and ultimately sealing the win with a final kneel down.

With their ground game firing on all cylinders, the Ravens are a team no defense will want to face. As they prepare for their next playoff challenge, the duo of Jackson and Henry could prove unstoppable as they march toward a potential Super Bowl berth.

NFL Week 16: Daniels Shines, Bills Rally, and Penix Jr. Delivers Big Win for Falcons

The NFL’s Week 16 provided plenty of drama, with standout performances from rookies and key players pushing teams closer to the playoffs. Here’s everything you need to know from Sunday’s action.

Jayden Daniels Stuns Eagles, Snap Philadelphia’s Winning Streak

The Philadelphia Eagles were poised to secure the NFC East title with an 11th straight win, but rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels had other plans. Despite losing Jalen Hurts to a concussion in the first quarter, the Eagles seemed to be in control. However, Daniels led a 57-yard, game-winning drive, capped off by a five-yard touchdown pass with just six seconds left, securing a thrilling 36-33 win for the Washington Commanders.

Daniels, who threw for five touchdowns in the game, became the first Washington quarterback since Mark Rypien in 1991 to accomplish the feat. His performance gave the Commanders a 95% chance of making the playoffs and continued their late-season surge. Daniels, who also rushed for 81 yards, reflected on the win saying, “The game’s never done ‘til the clock hits zero. I live for these big-time moments.”

Meanwhile, Hurts’ injury left the Eagles without their star quarterback for the remainder of the game. Backup QB Kenny Pickett managed to extend the lead, but Philadelphia struggled offensively in the second half. Despite a strong start with Saquon Barkley’s 109 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter, the Eagles couldn’t hold on, allowing Washington to rally.

Buffalo Bills Hold Off Patriots in Nail-Biting Victory

The Buffalo Bills faced a tough challenge from the New England Patriots but managed to secure a 24-21 win after overcoming an early 14-point deficit. The victory keeps the Bills in the hunt for the AFC’s No. 1 seed, although they would need the Kansas City Chiefs to falter.

Quarterback Josh Allen struggled, throwing for just 154 yards and one touchdown. He also appeared to injure his right hand but continued playing. Despite Allen’s off day, running back James Cook starred, rushing for 126 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-tying score in the third quarter. Tyler Bass’ field goal and a fumble recovery by Taron Johnson helped the Bills extend their lead, allowing them to hang on for their ninth win in 10 games.

Michael Penix Jr. Shines in First Start for Falcons

In Atlanta, rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. made an immediate impact in his first start, leading the Falcons to a dominant 34-7 win over the New York Giants. Penix went 18-of-27 for 202 yards, though a few dropped passes prevented him from recording a touchdown. Coach Raheem Morris praised the rookie’s performance, calling it “almost flawless” as the Falcons improved their playoff chances.

The Falcons bounced back from a four-game losing streak with Penix under center, securing a much-needed victory. Despite a slow start, including a 7-0 deficit early in the second quarter, Atlanta’s defense and special teams helped them take control. Running back Bijan Robinson added two rushing touchdowns, and the defense scored two pick-sixes.

The Falcons now have a 55% chance of making the playoffs as they look to continue their momentum with Penix at the helm.

Brawl Erupts After Michigan’s Shocking Win Over Ohio State in Heated Rivalry Game

An intense rivalry game between Michigan and Ohio State took an ugly turn after the final whistle, following Michigan’s stunning 13-10 victory over the No. 2-ranked Buckeyes in the 120th edition of “The Game.”

The Buckeyes, nearly a 20-point favorite at home, were aiming to snap a three-game losing streak to their archrivals and secure a spot in the Big Ten championship game. The game was tied at 10-10 in the final minute, as Michigan drove deep into Ohio State territory. The Wolverines took the lead with a 21-yard field goal by Dominic Zvada, putting them ahead 13-10. Ohio State, with no timeouts left, failed to respond, handing Michigan its fourth consecutive win in the historic rivalry.

The victory was a much-needed boost for Michigan, which has struggled to live up to expectations this season, including defending its national championship. However, the excitement of the win quickly gave way to a chaotic scene after the game ended.

A Michigan player attempted to plant a Michigan banner on the Buckeyes’ midfield logo at Ohio Stadium, a move that sparked a physical altercation between the two teams. What began as pushing and shoving soon escalated into punches being thrown, with players from both teams involved in the brawl.

Stadium security and police intervened to separate the players, with reports indicating that pepper spray was used to disperse the crowd. The television broadcast showed players wiping their eyes and coughing in the aftermath of the altercation.

Michigan running back Kalel Mullings condemned the postgame fighting, calling it “bad for the sport” and “classless.” “At the end of the day, some people got to learn how to lose,” Mullings told Fox Sports. “We had 60 minutes, we had four quarters to do all that fighting, and now people want to talk and fight. That’s wrong.”

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day also commented on the incident, explaining that his players were defending the Buckeyes’ field. “There were a couple things kind of crazy that went on down there,” Day said. “I know these guys were looking to put a flag on our field, and our guys weren’t going to let that happen.”

The incident has drawn widespread criticism, as many view the altercation as a poor reflection of the rivalry’s competitive spirit. Both Ohio State and Michigan athletic departments have yet to comment publicly on the altercation.

As of now, it remains unclear if any further disciplinary action will be taken against players involved in the postgame brawl.

Hiring outside London has dropped significantly after Chancellor Rachel Reeves unveiled her first Budget, leaving regional businesses scrambling to contain costs. The recruitment firm Robert Walters reported a 45pc fall in fee income from operations outside the capital during the final quarter of 2024, while London-based income rose by 3pc. The company attributed the decline to a hiring slowdown triggered by Ms Reeves’s tax measures, including a £25bn increase in employers’ National Insurance contributions. Toby Fowlston, chief executive of Robert Walters, said the surcharge “has been a dent to employers, and obviously that cost is needing to be absorbed.” A trading update revealed that the 30 October Budget rattled business confidence and dampened employers’ hiring plans in the closing months of 2024. The Institute of Directors reported that business confidence fell to its lowest level since the first Covid lockdown in December 2024. Mr Fowlston noted that worker confidence has also taken a hit, as many employees who secured “premium salaries” in the post-pandemic hiring boom are hesitant to switch roles in an uncertain market. “If you put yourselves in the shoes of an employee, they’re thinking: I’m on a good salary, the market is volatile, why would I move?” he explained. He added that Labour’s plans to overhaul UK employment law could amplify the pressure on Britain’s jobs market. “Further increases in costs” for employers would be “critical” for Labour to address in collaboration with businesses, he warned, cautioning that reforms—especially around zero-hours contracts—could have unintended negative consequences.
