Klarna Surpasses 11 Million UK Customers as Revenue Soars 30% in 2024

Swedish fintech company Klarna has reached a major milestone in the UK, announcing it now has over 11 million active customers and achieved a 30% increase in revenue for 2024. The performance cements the UK as Klarna’s third-largest market worldwide and highlights the country’s growing appetite for alternative payment solutions.

The company, best known for its “buy now, pay later” (BNPL) services, has also doubled its UK merchant base to 60,000. Among its new retail partners are prominent brands including Argos, eBay, Eurostar, and John Lewis — a signal of Klarna’s growing influence in the British retail sector.

“This is a huge moment for us,” said Raji Behal, Klarna’s Head of Southern and Western Europe, UK & Ireland. “We’ve gone from challenger to champion — and we’re just getting started. With more retailers, smarter tools and even better experiences, we’re putting power, and money, back into the hands of shoppers.”

Since launching in the UK a decade ago, Klarna has built its reputation on offering interest-free BNPL options as a transparent alternative to credit cards. The company claims its flexible payment solutions have saved UK consumers nearly £500 million in interest fees.

A recent report from Capital Economics indicates Klarna is reshaping consumer financial habits. Half of its UK users reported reducing their reliance on credit cards, with the average BNPL balance (£150) far below the average credit card debt (£1,295). Klarna also provides additional tools such as delivery tracking, spending summaries, and budgeting insights via its app.

Globally, Klarna now serves 93 million active consumers and more than 675,000 merchants, reinforcing its status as a leading player in fintech innovation.

The strong performance in the UK reflects a broader shift in consumer preferences toward more user-friendly, interest-free, and tech-integrated financial services — particularly among younger, digitally savvy shoppers.

With no signs of slowing down, Klarna continues to expand its offerings and partnerships, positioning itself at the forefront of the changing retail payments landscape in the UK and beyond.
